I’ve been up and down the “horse and tea trade route” a few times. basically the road from Chengdu south to Bangkok, as far as I am concerned. It extends west all the way to Lhasa and beyond and north to Xi’an, but basically the middle half (Yunnan and Sichuan) is where a lot of the life is these days ….
I wrote about it in a few different places, like this piece on Shaxi back in the day and another for Skrewtips primarily about tea. Now I’m back at it for ChinaTravel with this series I am working on, starting with this overview of the Old Tea Horse Road and then today with a look at Xishuangbanna.
Later this week I’ll be talking to Jeffrey Fuchs and then slowly moving along the trail to write about Dali and Lugu Lake and Zhongdian (Shangri-la) and some other places along the way.
When its all done, I’ll try and dedicate a page here to it.
